Save a Generation

Cyril Adejumo is the founder and driving force behind the Ollystar Educational Foundation, a grassroots non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to providing free, high-quality education to vulnerable children and youths in underprivileged communities across Africa, particularly in Nigeria and the Republic of Benin. Established as a modest, locally run initiative, the foundation operates without significant external funding, relying on personal dedication, community support, and occasional appeals to sustain its mission. It emphasizes educational equity as a pathway to self-reliance, serving thousands of students through programs like the Ollystar Children and Youths Academy, which offers free elementary and secondary education in at least four African countries.

The Personal Journey and Tragic Loss in Cyril’s story is one of profound commitment intertwined with heartbreaking loss.

For years, he and his wife, Abby, poured their lives into teaching in some of Africa’s most marginalized areas. As a couple, they worked tirelessly to “free young minds from the shackles of ignorance,” establishing the foundation to address systemic barriers like poverty, inadequate schooling, and limited access to resources. Their home was once a hub of laughter, learning, and hope, reflecting their shared passion for uplifting children who might otherwise be left behind. However, their journey took a devastating turn in late 2024. Abby fell seriously ill just months before Christmas, and the couple faced insurmountable medical costs amid their already strained finances as a bootstrapped NGO. Despite their efforts, financial constraints prevented adequate care, and Abby passed away a week before the holiday—a loss Cyril describes as “sharp, raw, and overwhelming.” This tragedy not only shattered their family but also threatened the foundation’s continuity, as the couple had been its sole pillars. Rising from Grief: Continuing the Legacy In the wake of Abby’s death, Cyril has channeled his grief into renewed determination, viewing the foundation’s work as a living tribute to her memory. He often speaks of the children as his “North Star,” their “bright eyes filled with curiosity and hope” fueling his resolve. Today, as of October 2025, Cyril leads the organization solo, blending personal advocacy with broader calls for social justice. He highlights everyday struggles faced by low-income communities in Nigeria—such as bureaucratic delays in passport issuance, erratic electricity billing, and malfunctioning government services—while rallying support via donation appeals and targeted giveaways (e.g., “$1000 for the first 100 vulnerable secondary school dropouts in rural Benin and Nigeria”). Cyril’s posts often echo a unifying mantra: “Every child deserves an education,” framing the foundation’s mission as a generational legacy of love and equity. Despite no major institutional backing, the NGO has impacted thousands, underscoring Cyril’s belief that education is the “foundational driver” of Africa’s path to self-reliance, Impact and Ongoing Challenges.

The foundation’s reach extends to free schooling programs that combat dropout rates and empower youth in rural and urban poor settings. Cyril’s story resonates as a testament to resilience: from a grieving widower navigating financial hardship to a beacon for educational reform. Yet, challenges persist—funding shortages, health crises, and systemic inequities continue to test the organization’s survival. Cyril invites global partners not as bystanders, but as co-builders of this enduring vision, ensuring Abby’s spirit endures through every lesson taught.
